PLEDGER organized a workshop focusing on the research challenges related to the quality of service for edge-to-Cloud continuum as part of the H-CLOUD submit which took place virtually on the 25th and 26th of November 2020.
The aim of the workshop has been to explore how overall offered Quality of Service (QoS) fits the application needs over the edge or edge/cloud continuum deployments, in a context in which processing speed and latency issues have been identified as the top barrier in this domain, while cost and reliability (meeting the provider Service Level Agreements - SLAs) are the top and second most important factors for evaluating edge and cloud services.
In order to do so, the workshop and initial presentation by Prof. Antonis Litke, Scientific Coordinator of PLEDGER project, explored the project Architecture and QoS challenges. Three different presentations followed from renowned researchers in Europe, presenting different perspectives: SLA & QoS and Smart Contracts by Domenico Siracusa from FBK; SLA & QoS in compute & network continuum - ACCORDION approach, from Prof. Patrizio Dazzi, ISTI – CNR and research challenges and areas for SLA & QoS in Edge to Cloud compute continuum by Dr Claudio Cicconetti, IIT-CNR.
The session was moderated by Ana Juan Ferrer from ATOS, the coordinator of the PLEDGER project and was attended by more than 30 participants from the industry and the research community. During the discussion part, participants identified potential points of contact and agreed to stay in touch for future collaboration.
